Mobile, Decr. 29th, 1816

To His Excellency

Governor Bibb

Sir,

Having held two commissions since during the war, and my last promotion as Captain being of the same date with two others who have risen from the ranks – I feel anxious to know if I am compelled to decide rank by ballot (which may place the others above me)— The words of my commission authorize me to take command of the first company not-withstanding our commissions are of the same date.

His Excellency will have the goodness to say if I am compelled to decide by ballot alone —- I am most respectfully,

Your Obt. Hl. Servt.

David C. Robinson

Paid 12/2cts.

To His Excellency

William Bibb

St. Stephens

Governor of A. T.
