AUTHOR SUNDAY: Buddy and Me -by Rosa Bain – she lived to the age of 101

Rosa Bain was born in 1922 and lived to be 101. She died on July 10, 2023. I recently discovered her story in my mother’s old files.

Rosa Mae, the author of this story, was my mother’s 1st cousin, Ellorine, and Buddy was Ellorine’s brother, Rev. W. O. Cottingham, who passed away June 8, 2009 (https://obits.nola.com/us/obituaries/nola/name/w-cottingham-obituary?id=14410536 ) My mother, Ellorine, passed away May 6, 2006. Their family misses these close cousins of the Cottingham family in Bibb County, Alabama.

This is a photograph of Rosa Mae at the reunion.

Rosa wrote this story in 2000 to share at a Cottingham reunion. The following quote is from her obituary ( https://www.dignitymemorial.com/obituaries/centreville-al/rosa-bain-11364473 )

“Rose “Meme” Bain, age 101, was born in Centreville, AL on April 26, 1922, and passed away peacefully surrounded by her beloved daughters on July 10, 2023, in Tuscaloosa, AL. Rose Bain, affectionately known as “Meme”, was a force of nature—a woman who fearlessly embraced life and left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Rose Bain had a magnetic personality that made strangers into friends in an instant. She traveled all over Europe twice, making friends and asking for sweet tea all along the way. She possessed the remarkable ability to find common ground with people from all walks of life. Her genuine interest in others and her ability to make them feel important will be forever remembered. She especially loved visits, card games, and long talks with all her many close friends. Rose loved people and her friends meant the world to her.

Rose was a compassionate friend, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother and a true inspiration to us all. Above all else Rose loved Jesus and was a child of God, always looking forward to the day she would meet Him face to face.”
