BIOGRAPHY and GENEALOGY

(1856-aft. 1921)

Perry and Dallas County, Alabama

 

Louis J. Adler, a merchant, was born June 24, 1856, in Milwaukee, Wis.; son of Jacob Adler and Betty (Eckstein) Adler, natives of Austria, the former of whom came to the United States in 1844, settling at Milwaukee, where he organized the Adler clothing co., in 1857 removed with his family to New York City, where he became president of the Stonewall oil co., the first cotton seed oil company of the city, and where he died in 1872. Louis J. Adler was educated in the Chartier institute of N. Y., and at the University of Vienna; spent three and a half years on the continent of Europe in school and travel, visiting Egypt as well as various parts of Europe.

David A. Aderholt, a real estate dealer, was born in Lincolnton, Lincoln County, N. C, November 25, 1842; son of Frederick Aderholt and Anna (Baker) Aderholt, the former a native of North Carolina, of German ancestry, and a farmer, who removed to Alabama.

John C, Forney was an attorney at law and alderman from the Sixth ward in Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alavama. He was born in Jacksonville, Ala., Nov. 23, 1873, the son of William H. Forney and Mary E. (Woodward) Forney; his father was of North Carolina and his mother was of Tennessee. Some of his ancestors were in the early wars.

BIOGRAPHY and GENEALOGY

Lawrence County, Alabama

 

Elder John Leigh was among the early settlers of north Alabama, coming from Virginia around 1800. John Leigh was born March 31, 1771 to John Zachariah Leigh (1737-1785) and Elizabeth (Greenhill) Leigh (1740-1820). His father enlisted during the Revolutionary War on Feb. 13, 1776 as Sargent for a period of three years and received a land grant for his service. His mother came with him to Alabama. She died July 9, 1820 and is buried in Madison County, Alabama. She was the daughter of David Greenhill and Catherine Claiborne.

Elder John Leigh was a Baptist minister in Virginia, and his wife was Elizabeth Johns, daughter of Joel Johns and Dianisha Bruce.

ABNER SMITH

BIOGRAPHY and GENEALOGY

Franklin and Lawrence County, Alabama and Texas

 

Elder Abner Smith was another of the old ministers of the Muscle Shoals Baptist Association. He was born in Warren County, NC in 1781. He was the son of Benjamin Smith and Sarah Langford. He married 1st Siddy Busbee, daughter of Edmund Busbee and Jerusha Johnson. She was born 1785 in Warren Co., NC. After her death, he married Sarah Rebecca Jackson on Aug. 5, 1826 in Nashville, Davidson Co., Tennesse. She died around 1836. They had one child, Abigail Smith in 1828 in Lawrence County, Alabama.
